After 11 years, the 4th instalment in the beloved Pikmin series has finally released in all it's glory. With incredible graphics, visuals, collectibles and adorable Pikmin, Pikmin 4 is a great game in the series.
Story: In the game, Olimar gets stuck on PNF404, and fails to make it off the planet on his own, so the Rescue Corps come to rescue him, and they get stuck on the planet as well. Now you will create your own character, a Rescue Corps rookie, and go to PNF404 to save the Rescue Corps and Olimar. There is no limit, so you can plan out each day, and not feel rushed.
Setting: Throughout the game you will explore different locations, each of them with their own unique style, such as a house, a sand castle, and a backyard.
Gameplay: In the game there are many different types of Pikmin. Red Pikmin are resistent to fire, blue Pikmin can swim, yellow Pikmin can jump high and resist electricity, ice Pikmin can freeze water and enemies, white Pikmin are poisonous, purple Pikmin are strong, rock Pikmin can break hard objects, and winged Pikmin can fly. You can only bring three types of pikmin out, and you will use these three to help you in the location you're in. You also have Oatchi, the Rescue Corps Puppy, to help you on your journey. Oatchi can help carry objects, attack enemies, and carry objects. You can also upgrade Oacht You will explore the area to find people to rescue, treasure, and material, to make bridges and grow the Pikmin population. There is a feature that lets you rewind time to learn mistakes you made to keep your Pikmin from dying. You can also explore caves to find castaways and treasure. The game will challenging you strategically, through Dandori challenges, which will have you collect enough stuff to win, or fight a leafling. You can now explore at night with Glow Pikmin, and defend a tower where they spawn from. Most of the game is fun, but its not withought its flaws. The gameplay can get repetitive, and the Dandori Challenges can feel frustrating at times. The 2 player mode also feels disapointing since the second player can only act as a pointer.
In Conclusion: While the game has its flaws, Pikmin 4 is still a great game in the series, and I would recommend this to any Switch owner, or Pikmin fan.
8/10: Great
